The five ‘must do’ things for ministry staff success

Previously we shared some thoughts from Lynn Turner, Associate Pastor of Youth, Career, and Discipleship at the First Baptist Church of Richmond, VA. We asked Lynn to share her thoughts about how to success in ministry with seminarians in my course on “Thriving and Succeeding as a Congregational Ministry Associate.” Here are her thoughts about “The Five ‘Must Do’ Things for Ministry Staff Success”:

1. Be a part of staff family. Take time to get to know each other on a personal level. Team building in a multi-staff church is the critical thing that you must work on

2. Constantly evaluate where you are. Have accountability with a small group for constructive criticism and affirmation. Have a prayer support team.

3. Communicate, communicate, communicate! Do not be a lone ranger.

4. Take care of yourself. Take your day off and vacation for replenishment. Keep a healthy relationship with God through personal Bible study and prayer. Have a life outside of church.

5. Laugh at yourself at least once every day.

Thanks, Lynn!
