Family faith formation education

Lent is an ideal time to offer family faith formation education. Lent offers one of those seasons of the year that help us “pay attention” to life and faith in different ways, and hopefully, more intentional ways. While congregations try to do the best they can in offering congregational faith formation education to their members the fact remains the the greatest impact we’ll ever make in the lives of our members will be to the extent that we can influence their family faith formation.

Clergy and staff are the spiritual leaders of the congregation, but parents are the spiritual leaders of the home. So, what are you doing this Lenten season to help your congregation’s families to “pay attention” to God in their lives? How are you resourcing your families? The parents? In what ways are you offering opportunities through “showing how”?

Here’s one place to start. Admittedly these are simple suggestions, but they may offer a starting point for you to think about what Christian Education Formation opportunities and means you can offer your families during this season. Read this short article on BeliefNet.com.

Intelligence, schooling, and faith

Four separate recent incidents have got me thinking about the issues of faith, learning, and educating in faith. In the first incident, a seminary student shared with me her experience at a “contemporary worship service” at a local church. She shared that after the service she was talking to a member of that church. The church member (also a denominational worker) shared that the minister of the church, and at other “contemporary or postmodern churches” are ‘dumbing down’ the worship service and messages.
