Today is the feast day of St. Cyril of Jerusalem (315-386) who has one of the best quotes on respecting parents: “For however much we may repay them, yet we can never be to them what they as parents have been to us.”
Cyril was an early Christian educator, being in charge of the instruction of the catechumens. Many of his catechetical lectures remain from recorded student notes. His was not an easy ministry. He was caught up in the fallout of both ecclesial and secular politics resulting in a series of exiles and returns.
