A new resource for children’s missions education

I’m pleased to announce the release of a new resource for children’s missions education: Ready! Set! Go! Children on Mission Throughout the Church Year. The book was written by the students in my Teaching Children course, co-taught by Barbara Massey, Minister to Children at the River Road Church, Richmond, VA.

This book is a resource for church teachers and educators to help children, ages eight through eleven, grow in their Christian faith through missions activities. The book puts into effect the educational principle, “You learn to do what you do.” By making it possible for children to participate in missions activities throughout seasons of the Christian year children will acquire a love for service, ministry, and missions by actually doing, rather than merely “learning about.”

The seasons of the Christian Year mirror the life of the Church in worship, service, and learning. Using the Christian Year as a framework for children’s mission education will make learning and doing missions and ministry a yearlong habit of the heart. This book highlights Advent, Christmas. Epiphany, the Lenten season, the seasons of Pentecost and Ordinary Time.

The beginning of each chapter provides general information about the season within which the mission activity is situated. Scriptures have been used liberally as aids to worship, prayer and understanding of the suggested activities. These missions learning activities and programs are easily adaptable to you congregation’s context and can be incorporated into an existing children’s missions education program, or, can provide a missions component to a Vacation Bible School program.

The writers are: Monica Lee Bagby, Jennifer Grace Baker, Johnnie M. Boyd, Adam R. Phlegar, Lori A. Strickland.

The book will soon be available through Amazon.com. You can order right now from Educational Consultants. The price is $16.00 plus shipping. Mention this blog site for a 20% discount.
