As a young lad growing up as a sand-lapper in Beaufort, SC I have fond memories of mosquitoes, Spanish moss, red bugs, marshlands, and even that strange Gullah dialect that was embedded in the people in the backwoods of the estuary. I recall being upset when they changed the name to Exxon. We purchased our gas there and a dutiful attendant approached us with a smile, filled our tank with gas, checked our oil, and cleaned our windshield.

I vividly remember the Coburg Dairy milk truck arriving in front of the house and the driver hopping out to deliver four quarts of milk in glass jugs. He left them on our brick steps under the carport. My mother, who did not work, or one of her children, picked them up and put them in the ‘fridge. Reminisce is a magazine that is devoted to remembering the past. I find it delightfully refreshing. And for those who work with senior adults, it’s an especially helpful resource that our older and more “mature” congregants enjoy. Good jokes, recipes, stories, vintage photographs, and real-life memories of the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s and 50’s—a relaxing stroll down memory lane.
