Types of thinking
Last week I heard someone ask the question, “How am I supposed to think about this?” That’s a good question. Often we’re asked about what we think about something, but perhaps a more helpful question is “How are you thinking about this?” There are more ways of thinking than we can imagine (imaginative thinking being one of those ways).
Here’s a partial list (using alphabetical thinking I’ve alphabetized them) of types of thinking.
Abstract thinking
Alphabetical thinking
Analytical thinking
Concrete thinking
Convergent thinking
Creative thinking
Critical thinking
Deductive thinking
Divergent thinking
Evaluative thinking
Imaginative thinking
Inductive thinking
Inferential thinking
Metacognitive thinking
Metaphorical thinking
Metasyntactic thinking
Oppositional thinking
Parallel thinking
Rational thinking
Straight and crooked thinking
Strategic thinking
Systemic thinking
Teleological thinking
Visual thinking.
The next time you tell someone, “Let me think about that,” consider what ways of thinking you’ll choose. If you go down the list in an attempt to be thorough, warn them that it’ll take some time.

Congratulations Dr. Galindo! While a student at BTSR (class of 2007), I did not have the opportunity to be in one of your classes, but I think that what I have seen and heard of you, you will do BTSR good (southern english!). May you wear your role well remembering that Jesus said, “…my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”. Truly it is! Sincerely, WSK
Another question to consider, and I believe you Dr. Galindo introduced me to this question, is “Where is this coming from?” - with a focus on why we are thinking, feeling, and reacting in certain ways. I am sure it has something to do with Bowen, but that, as well as this new question, are two that will be in my inner discussions throughout this process.
